Mary, Queen of Scots

#Event: Saoirse Ronan to attend special screening of Mary, Queen of Scots at The Stella Rathmines on January 11th

The Stella Theatre Rathmines and Universal Pictures Ireland will welcome Saoirse Ronan to a special screening of Mary, Queen of Scots followed by a Q&A hosted by Irish TV presenter, Karen Koster on Friday, January 11th at 5.45pm.

The Oscar nominated actress will be at The Stella Rathmines discussing her latest role as Queen Mary, what it was like working with Margot Robbie as well taking questions from the audience.

Saoirse Ronan earned her first Academy Award nomination for Focus and Working Title’s Atonement, and was again an Academy Award nominee for Brooklyn; she also starred for Focus as the title character in Hanna, and other past credits include The Grand Budapest Hotel, How I Live Now, and The Lovely Bones, as well as Lady Bird which recently earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

Mary, Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I. Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

This period drama is set to be a hit at the box office and the beautiful restored Stella Theatre is the perfect place to enjoy the story of love, rivalry and female regents in a masculine world. Sit back in the comfy red leather chairs with some delicious food and world class cocktails and enjoy this amazing film.

Mary, Queen of Scots opens in Irish cinemas nationwide on January 18th, 2019.

Tickets for the event (€25) are on sale now and can be purchased via the Stella website.
