Looking back at the top performing films over the past five years at Light House, there’s a huge variety of wonderful films taking the top spots. Light House Cinema is particularly pleased to see four Irish films in our top 10 films ever.

  2. The Artist
  3. Boyhood
  4. Birdman
  5. Amy
  6. Room
  7. Sing Street

They re-opened the Light House Cinema doors on Friday 20th of January 2012, following a hiatus of almost a year, with enthusiastic and positive responses from audiences who have proven to be loyal supporters ever since, so it seems like perfect symmetry to mark their 5th Birthday on Friday January 20th.

To celebrate, they thought it fitting to look back on all of their past seasons with a special exhibition artwork from each. They love our seasons and put so much energy and love into curating each one, which includes taking great care with how the season is represented and contextualised for their audiences. It’s a great opportunity to work with some amazing artists and they’ve loved every minute of the time they’ve spent putting together these retrospectives. From the epic cinematic greatness of David Lynch to Films You’d Love Your Kids to See season and the annual Halloween and Christmas events, each season is an excuse to spotlight just one of the many facets of what people love about cinema!

Ligfht House Cinema has worked with some seriously talented designers and illustrators through the years to create beautiful representations fitting each season and they are delighted to have this opportunity to display all their incredible creativity in one exhibition which captures the spirit and essence of what makes the Light House such a unique venue.

From this Friday, January 20th, they will have over 30 pieces displayed throughout the cinema including Lauren O’Neill’s DeNiro Vs Pacino, Mick Minogue’s and Alan Dunne’s’ Naughty or Nice Christmas. Bill Murray by Gavin Feiritear, M&E’s Kubrick and David Lynch seasons, and Steve Simpson’s Ennio Morricone.

Light House Cinema is a specialist independent cinema committed to programming the best Irish and International films. Their eclectic schedule includes feature films shorts, classics, foreign language and animated films, feature length documentaries, Event Cinema, inventive special events, seasons, and festivals.

In addition to their core specialist programming, they show films that might be considered more ‘commercial art house’ and films that crossover into mainstream cinema when we believe that the film or its talent (writer, director, cast) are of particular interest to their audience.

The films they select serve to challenge the audience and encourage engagement with current aesthetic, political, social and cultural issues, and trends.
