Film Event: Irish Premiere of Shane Meadow's The Living Room @ The Button Factory, July 18th

For one night only, Warp Films and Ugly Duckling in Dublin will host the Irish Premiere of The Living Room, a Shane Meadow’s film, celebrating the music of Gavin Clark, followed by a live performance from Gavin Clark accompanied by Nick Hemming and Helen Whitaker of The Leisure Society.

The night’s proceedings will be kicked off with a screening of Shane Meadows’ first short film Northern Soul, a 30min short mock documentary, followed by a one-off exclusive screening of his legendary 2009 (and previously unseen in Ireland) documentary The Living Room, about his long term friend and music collaborator Gavin Clark, whose music has inspired Shane’s films throughout his career. The evening will continue with a live music performance by Gavin Clark, featuring a retrospective selection of compositions from his 20 years of making music, accompanied by Nick Hemming & Helen Whitaker of The Leisure Society.

Renowned, BAFTA award-winning director, Shane Meadows is a self-taught British film-maker of cult films This Is England, Dead Man’s Shoes, Twenty Four Seven and most recently, the documentary Stone Roses: Made of Stone. He is recognised as one of the most important figures of British Independent cinema, having garnered critical acclaim for the brutal realism of his heartfelt, largely semi-autobiographical films. Often focusing on the underside of small-town midlands life, Meadows has developed a reputation for his ability to weave myth with social realism in an inimitable, emotive style. He has consistently proven himself to be an edgy, unpredictable and inspired presence in film-making. Meadows has developed long-standing collaborative relationships with the likes of Paddy Considine, the late Bob Hoskins and musician Gavin Clark.

His first short film Northern Soul marked the beginning of his collaboration with musician Gavin Clark. Starring Toby Kebbell, Northern Soul
tells the story of Mike Sherbet, a lonely young man obsessed with American wrestling with the implausible dream of competing against his heroes on the British wrestling circuit.

The event takes place at The Button Factory, Dublin on Friday, July 18th. Doors from 7pm. Tickets, which are €20, are available at www.buttonfactory.ie
