Event: JDIFF and Sony to screen Whiplash in Dundrum on November 18th

Jameson Dublin International Film Festival and Sony Pictures will present a special screening of the highly anticipated movie sensation Whiplash on Tuesday November 18th at Movies@Dundrum at 7pm.

Hailed as one of the most exhilarating movies at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, claiming both the Audience and Grand Jury Awards, Whiplash tells the story of Andrew Neyman (Miles Teller) an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. Plagued by the failed writing career of his father, Andrew hungers day and night to become one of the greats. Terence Fletcher (J.K Simmons), an instructor equally known for his teaching talents as for his terrifying methods, leads the top jazz ensemble in the school. Fletcher discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into his band, forever changing the young man’s life.  Andrew’s passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher continues to push him to the brink of both his ability—and his sanity.

Grainne Humphreys, Festival Director, Jameson Dublin International Film Festival says:
Without doubt, the most exciting aspect of my job is discovery of new talent. Travelling to over 20 different festivals a year – seeking out films and guests for the annual film jamboree that is JDIFF, I see a lot of new films – over 1200 films a year at last count. But I can still recall every frame of seeing Whiplash for the first time. It was in Les Arcades – one of the smaller cinemas in Cannes, it was a sunny day and the packed audience didn’t care about the weather as the advance word about this music drama was something special. And the film delivered on this advance promise…the spectacular sense of energy and tension which builds to a crescendo is both thrilling and emotional, the lead actors are both stunning and it’s a film you will want to see it again and again. Its my film pick of the year and a pleasure to share with Dublin audiences.
Whiplash marks the fourth out-of-festival special event this year, with the Festival hosting The Commitments in Smithfield Square during the summer and Gary Shore’s Dracula Untold and the Surprise Screening of ‘71 in September.

Tickets for the special screening will be available exclusively through the JDIFF website. To ensure a ticket to this event log on to www.jdiff.com and sign up to the mailing list, tickets are available on a first come first served basis.
