A Woman’s Place

#Event: Special screening of documentary A Woman’s Place at the IFI on June 25th

The Irish Film Institute will welcome Minister Katherine Zappone TD and Frances Fitzgerald TD to attend a special screening of Declan McGrath’s documentary A Woman’s Place on Monday, June 25th, followed by a panel discussion.

This observational documentary charts acclaimed artist Noel Murphy’s six-month journey to paint the 53 sitting female members of the Oireachtas in one single portrait.

The painting, unveiled on International Women’s Day 2018 in March, marked both the centenary of the 1918 election to Westminster of Countess Constance Markievicz, the first woman in the world to hold a cabinet position, and the record number of female TDs in the 32nd Dáil following the introduction of the gender quota in 2016.

Throughout the artistic journey, journalist Eamonn Mallie speaks to the deputies about their role in politics as they visit the artist’s studio. The film not only affords the viewer a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the artist’s creative process, but also allows them to experience the colour and emotions of the sitters being captured in paint and on camera.

This screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Eamonn Mallie, and will feature artist Noel Murphy, director Declan McGrath, Minister Katherine Zappone TD, and Frances Fitzgerald TD.

Tickets for this screening are available now at www.ifi.ie or from the IFI Box Office on 01-6793477.
