#Industry: Windmill Lane & Number 4 announce new theatrical audio mixing facility

Number 4, Windmill Lane’s audio division, continues a successful year with further expansion as they announce a strategic partnership with Odeon Cinemas to offer clients theatrical audio mixing facilities.

The new service sees Number 4 install its sixth studio mixing space in one of Odeon’s Point Square cinemas. Scannain was invited down earlier this week to see the facility and it makes for an impressive installation. Eight seats were removed from two rows in the middle of the theatre to make room for the platform, which accommodates the sound editing desk, two monitors and one technician.

This is something our clients have been looking for and we’re delighted to be able to offer a city centre based theatre mixing environment. A bonus is that it’s only ten minutes from our main facility.
Deborah Doherty, Audio Director – Number 4

Mary McGuckian’s A Girl from Mogadishu is the first film to be mixed in the new facility, with several more projects already slated for the space in the coming months.

It’s been an honour to test Windmill’s first full theatre audio experience at the Odeon. Where better to mix a feature film than in a perfectly calibrated cinema!

Modern technology allows us to bring the dubbing theatre to the Cinema which is acoustically the perfect solution.
Tim Morris, Head of Drama Post Production – Windmill Lane

Number 4 has had an exceptional year so far, with its team growing to 19 staff in response to a growing client base. Film projects completed this year alone include Papi Chulo, Metal Heart, Dublin Oldschool, and Black ’47. The studio also continues to build and grow strong partnerships with the key players in Ireland’s booming animation sector.

Partnering with Odeon to offer this service has not only been a strategic response to industry demand, it also offers potential to new and existing clients in the commercial, animation and TV sectors.
