#Industry: David Burke appointed Chairman of the Irish Industry Trust for IP Awareness

David Burke has been appointed Chairman of the Irish Industry Trust for IP Awareness, David will lead the Irish Trust in developing and delivering the next phase of public awareness and educational strategies to inspire Irish audiences to respect creative content by demonstrating that film, TV and VOD have an entertainment value worth paying for.

Alison Crinion, Communications Director for the Irish Industry Trust has said

David has been an active member of the Industry Trust Committee for a number of years and I look forward to working with him on the next phase of the Irish Trust’s progression. A key focus of the Irish Trust is to educate and inform the public about the detrimental impact of piracy on jobs, the film industry and the economy. Together with the other Trust Committee members we hope to increase our reach and start new conversations about film piracy in Ireland.

David Burke is General Manager of Universal Pictures International Ireland, the film distribution arm of NBC Universal. Previously, David worked with leading Irish independent Film distributors Clarence Pictures, the distribution arm of Little Bird Ltd. and Eclipse Pictures where he was involved in releasing a wide range of Irish and International films. David has also worked as a consultant with Halo Communications, a film specific promotions company working with International Distributors such as Twentieth Century Fox and United International Pictures.

A Film Studies MA graduate from University College Dublin; David also holds a Diploma in Advertising and PR alongside an MBA from DIT Business School. Currently a career mentor with UCD; David also sits on the DIT MBA council.

The Industry Trust is the film, TV and video industry’s consumer education body, promoting the value of copyright and creativity. Its consumer awareness programmes address the on-going challenge of film and TV copyright infringement by inspiring audiences to value great movie moments and choose to watch film, TV and video via legitimate sources. Industry funded, their work aims to engage three distinct audience groups: young people, 16-34-year-olds; and parents, providing extensive insight around audience attitudes and understanding of intellectual property.
