Bow Street Academy for Screen Acting

Screen Ireland & Bow Street launch new initiative ‘Actor as Creator’ to showcase Irish acting talent

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, in partnership with Bow Street Academy, the National Screen Acting School of Ireland has launched an innovative new scheme ‘Actor as Creator’, to promote and invest in Irish screen acting talent, during a time when social distancing measures are affecting traditional production activity. ‘The Actor as Creator’ is a new initiative designed to create a diverse range of work from unique creative voices within the Irish screen acting community.

The initiative, which is supported by Equity, is focused on developing original voices, showcasing personal expression in a range of styles, as well as promoting Irish acting talent to a wide audience.  Actors are asked to submit a proposal based on a concept, script and / or character they have originated.  The successful recipient will originate, perform and produce the short filmic work. The successful pieces will be showcased widely after completion.

Up to 30 successful participants will be allocated a grant of €2,500 towards producing the short work. Originality and personal expression will be at the heart of the scheme. Skills development support focused on screenwriting, shooting and editing will be delivered online for the successful applicants through Screen Skills Ireland, the skills development unit within Screen Ireland.

The commissioned actor must be the key performer. All works created and/or produced by the actor must adhere to all Government guidelines and protocols to ensure compliance with Covid-19 related public health protection measures.
