Irish Abroad: Shooting underway on Billy O’Brien’s I Am Not a Serial Killer

Screen International is reporting that principal photography is underway in the US for Irish writer/director Billy O’Brien’s new supernatural-thriller I Am Not a Serial Killer.

The film, which is an adaptation of Dan Wells’ novel of the same name, follows a 15-year-old who is a diagnosed sociopath.  Due to being plagued by constant homicidal urges, he lives by a set of rules designed to keep his violent impulses in check.

The film has cast Max Records (Where The Wild Things Are) in the lead, alongside Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) and Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad).

Nick Ryan, Robbie Ryan and Billy O’Brien of Irish production company Floodland Pictures produce, with The Tea Shop and Film Company’s James Harris and Mark Lane. Financing comes from the Irish Film Board, Quickfire Films, and The Fyzz Facility. Post-production will be handled by EGG in Dublin.

All well as acting as producer Robbie Ryan will also act as DoP on the film, whose most recent work can be witnessed in recent release Catch Me Daddy.

Speaking to Screen International writer-director O’Brien said:
Taking Dan Wells’ icky dark and funny novel to the big screen is like getting to play all day and being here in Minnesota, the home of the Coens and the setting for Fargo is inspiring us all. I have a fantastic team around me, some amazing actors and plenty of warm clothes!
Andrew Orr of Independent also said:
I Am Not A Serial Killer is that rarest of things: a truly innovative take on a much-loved genre. We are delighted to be working with Billy and the rest of the team and excited to be bringing this striking story to buyers around the globe.
