The Galway Film Fleadh, the annual six day international film event which welcomes a mad diversity of filmmaking from around the world, has been hailed as one of the 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World by Moviemaker Magazine.
The Film Fleadh has cemented its reputation in recent years (long known to regular attendees) as the place to see new Irish cinema and enjoys a cult reputation on the international stage. The Film Fleadh was included in the list as part of Moviemaker Magazine’s ‘fall’ issue, which hits newstands on November 25th. The seven judges who compiled the list include U.S. filmmakers, critics and festival executives who praised the Film Fleadh for being a “hilariously fun” and “smartly curated” Irish festival. The Film Fleadh is the only festival in Ireland to be named on the list. The judges also praised the Film Fleadh’s industry market, the Galway Film Fair, as a great place to meet film execs.
The Film Fleadh is very much a film lovers’ festival, and has attracted directors, actors, cinematographers and artists of all generations and cultural backgrounds to Galway for 26 years, with its central goal remaining unchanged: to bring together audiences and filmmakers within an intimate environment, and share a common experience – the wonder of cinema. “Uniformly excellent cinema is one thing the 25 festivals have in common,” says Moveimaker Magazine.
The 27th Galway Film Fleadh will take place from Tuesday 7th to Sunday 12th July 2015 and will open for feature entries next week, having just come-off a very succesful 20th year for their young people’s arm, the Junior Galway Film Fleadh.
