Calling all Young Film Makers! First Cut! announces Feel Good Lost filmmakers competition for 2016 festival

Are you aged between 16 and 21 and into making film? Then this is the opportunity for you! The Young Filmmaker/Director Competition for aspiring filmmakers, in partnership with Feel Good Lost is a new and exciting opportunity. If you are a talented young filmmaker looking for a break in the exciting world of film then enter here!

The 7th edition of First Cut! Youth Film Festival is now inviting young filmmakers/directors, on their own or in duos, to apply for a place in this competition. They are inviting proposals, no longer than 200 words telling them why you want to be a filmmaker.
Tell us a little about yourself, where you are from, why did you want to be a movie director? When did you know it was what you wanted to do? how you became involved in filmmaking. We want young filmmakers to showcase their skills to us by sending us a link to their best piece of work. This includes all genres and styles, and can be a music video, but not necessarily.
Five talented young filmmakers will be chosen to get to experience the reality of creating an exciting music video under the mentorship of renowned directors Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson, directors of Hozier’s Take Me to Church and recently nominated for two MTV VMA nominations.

Feel Good Lost directors will provide hands-on training and mentoring opportunities to 5 outstanding young emerging directors age 16 to 21. Those selected will take part in a workshop where they meet Feel Good Lost Director Brendan. Mentoring and support will be provided by both Canty and Thomson.
Short films are a beautiful art form which I urge you as young filmmakers to keep making. But I strongly encourage you to try your hand at telling these stories or making your visuals through music videos as it is the best and fastest way to learn, develop and get noticed as a young director.

The First Cut! Youth Film Festival is delighted to announce it has teamed up with Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson of Feel Good Lost to give young up-and-coming filmmakers the opportunity develop their filmmaking skills with mentorship from these local successful film directors.
Each year First Cut!, with the invaluable core support of the Arts Council and Cork County Council, sets out to support these up and coming filmmakers and celebrate the hard work that they put into making their short films. ‘In particular in the current climate we want to encourage young people’s involvement in the arts and maybe provide another pathway into the Irish film industry which has grown hugely over the last decade. The festival sets out to give a voice to talented young filmmakers from County Cork and further afield, showcasing their inspiring short films.’ said the festival manager.

The panel of judges will consist of Brendan Canty, Conal Thomson, Stevie G (Red FM) and Eoin French (Talos). All styles of filmmaking are encouraged; from narrative to experimental, animation to live action and everything in between.

To coincide with the 2016 First Cut! Youth Film Festival, April 21-23, young filmmakers/directors are invited to apply for a place. 5 young filmmakers will be selected and invited/asked to create a music video for an act selected by Feel Good Lost. Finally all 5 films will be screened on Saturday 23rd April at the Festival‘s main screening day and an award will be presented to the selected best music video.
