Subtitle European Film Festival

#Festival: Subtitle European Film Festival returns to Dun Laoghaire, Jan 31st to Feb 3rd

The second annual Subtitle European Film Festival returns to Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire from Thursday, January 31st to Sunday, February 3rd.

Subtitle will screen 10 European subtitled films during the weekend, many of which are Irish premieres; these are some of the most popular European films that rarely show up at the multiplex. If you’re looking for provocative, funny, accessible and smart European films, then Subtitle is for you.

Unknown Soldier

This year, the director of the opening film, Unknown Soldier, Aku Louhimies, will be in Dublin to present the film and conduct a Q&A afterwards. Unknown Soldier is the biggest grossing film of all time in Finland (earning $17m). It is a masterpiece of film-making and its fans include Steven Spielberg and Alejandro Inarritu.

Other films to note is the screwball comedy French box office hit, Trouble With You, Danila Kozlosvki’s superb feel-good drama, Coach and Christian Tafstrup’s wicked relationship comedy, A Horrible Woman.

In total, there is a strong collection of thrillers, dramas and comedies from Finland, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Russia and Denmark. Organisers are very excited about the mix of movies available and are confident that there’s something on offer for all tastes.

Subtitle, Dún Laoghaire’s inaugural festival was held last year and was a huge success. The festival – which was founded in Kilkenny in 2012 – also runs Subtitle, Galway at the Town Hall Theatre.
