Postcards from the 48%

#FilmFleadh: Postcards from the 48% to have Irish premiere at 30th Galway Film Fleadh

Brexit documentary Postcards from the 48% will have its Irish premiere at the 30th Galway Film Fleadh on Sunday, July 15th at 2pm in the Pálás Cinema.

British filmmaker David Nicholas Wilkinson came up with the idea for his Stop Brexit film Postcards from the 48% at the 2016 Galway Film Fleadh; and the film opens with the Irish and EU flags flying side by side in Town Hall Square which was filmed at the Fleadh in 2017.

This provocative shot was very deliberate as Ireland embraces the EU in a way Britain never has. The opening establishing scenes are all shot in Galway. For Wilkinson the Irish border is the single most important issue of Brexit.

Well into filming, Dublin born Aziz McMohan provided the money to finish the film; and he will join Wilkinson and Mark Durkan, former Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, who also helped draft the Good Friday Agreement and features in the film, for the Irish première at the Galway Film Fleadh on 15th July followed by a screening to Irish politicians at the Light House Dublin on 16th July.

Featuring (in alphabetical order) Joan Bakewell, Catherine Bearder, Vince Cable, Ruth Cadbury, Alastair Campbell, Rachel Clarke, Nick Clegg, Mark Constantine, Andrew Cook, Mark Durkan, Bob Geldof, AC Grayling, Bonnie Greer, Will Hutton, Rachel Johnson, Matt Kelly, Helena Kennedy, Miriam Margolyes, Raymond McCord, Ian McEwan, Henry Porter, Lesley Riddoch, Patience Wheatcroft and so many others from the 48%.

Postcards from the 48% was filmed in London, Dover, Folkestone, St Margaret’s Bay, Poole, Bath, Bristol, Ebbw Vale, Criccieth, Stoke on Trent, Norwich, Sheffield, Manchester, Fife, Omagh, Derry, Pettigo (Northern Ireland), Pettigo (Ireland), Galway and places in-between.

The screening at the Galway Film Fleadh on July 15th will be followed by a Q&A with Mark Durkan and the director. Tickets are on-sale now.
