Currently funding on FundIt is Metropolis, a brand new Dublin feature film festival dedicated entirely to science fiction, fantasy and cult film. An event that will merge a film festival with some of the exciting elements of a comic con. Scannain is an official festival sponsor, and we invite our readers to help make this festival happen.
Metropolis will take place at a major Dublin cinema from 24 to 27 September, and will bring some of the best science fiction, fantasy and cult film from around the globe. Metropolis will screen everything from cult classics to forthcoming international releases including digitally re-mastered classics, first-look new releases and kid-friendly screenings. There will be costumes, photo-booths, and even replica props.
The organisers want to transport visitors to strange and magical worlds, to expand the limits of their imagination. They want to give visitors the opportunity to see sci-fi and fantasy films that would not get an Irish release, and watch cinematic classics as they were meant to be seen — on the big screen. Through their shorts competition, they will encourage up-and-coming filmmakers to showcase their talent and give viewers a chance to see Ireland in a magical new way. Metropolis will also have workshops and talks, and even The Sci-fi and Fantasy Fan ball.
The festival will be programmed and produced by The Producers’ Anna Taylor with assistance from Derek O’Connor, writer, filmmaker, freelance programmer, and former festival director of the Darklight digital film festival.
