Dublin Film Critics Circle announce jury award winners at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2015

Every year the Dublin Film Critics Circle award the best at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival with a ceremony at the end of the festival. This year the big prize went to Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy’s The Tribe, a frankly extraordinary film about a deaf mute teenager struggles to fit in at a boarding school.

Best Director went to Ruben Östlund for his avalanche drama Force Majeure, which won the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes last year. Yuri Bykov won Best Screenplay for The Fool, with Lyle Vincent’s sublime cinematography on A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night rightly recognised.

On the home front Gerard Barrett’s Sundance favourite Glassland took Best Irish film, with Wheel Of Fortune: The Story And Legacy Of The Fairview Lion Tamer taking Best Irish Documentary. Prolific cinematographer Piers McGrail was awarded the Michael Dwyer Discovery prize for his work on  Let Us Prey, Glassland, and The Canal. The opening scene of Let Us Prey being a particular highlight.

The festival wraps up today with annual delight the Surprise Film, an audience with Julie Andrews, and a 50th anniversary screening of The Sound of Music.
