#Festival: 5th IndieCork Film Festival gets underway in Cork

With a round of applause for Eliza Hittman’s Sundance award-winning film, Beach Rats, the fifth edition of the IndieCork Film Festival has officially begun.

IndieCork set out to focus on the independent sector. Little did we know at the time, just how vibrant and worthy of a festival independent production is.
Una Feely, Co-director – IndieCork

Over the next seven days, IndieCork will screen more than 110 films, feature a rich performance line-up, including a live performance by veteran Cork Alt-rock band, Hope Is Noise, and a free gig by American Country Artist Gary McMahan. For the fifth edition, the curators of the festival have teamed up with the Visegrad Film Festival, a component unique to the Cork community, to bring audiences the best in Czechia, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak independent film.

Our goal was from the very start to bring closer the Visegrad culture with the Irish audience and what better chance than present our films at IndieCork. I discovered a hunger for Visegrad films in Cork and the absence of which outside of Eastern Europe.  Peter Zemek, Director – Visegrad Film Festival

This year, the festival will screen fresh content emerging from the Visegrad nations, including a spotlight on a selection of Hungarian short and feature films, including the recent Grand Prix winner from the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, It’s Not the Time of My Life”, by Szabolc Hajdu, and Oscar-winning short, Sing”.

These films will screen 9th – 13th of October at the Gate Cinemas and in the Blacknight Festival Centre at The Village Hall. All films in this programme will be presented by the curator or filmmaker.

In addition to the vast selection of Irish and international shorts, documentaries and feature films, IndieCork will host a birthday-themed Film Feast with an Italian favorite, Big Night, and provide a series of workshops to help artists advance their work.
