Hunt for the Wilderpeople

#Festival: The 22nd Junior Film Fleadh to host special screening of Hunt For the Wilderpeople

The Junior Film Fleadh has announced a very special screening of the multi-award-winning family film, Hunt for the Wilderpeople (12), a hilarious and charming buddy-comedy/coming-of-age drama from Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows, Thor: Ragnarok). Hunt for the Wilderpeople won the audience award for Best International Feature Film at the Galway Film Fleadh in July as well as garnering awards and nominations at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Fantasia Film Festival and Seattle International Film Festival.

In Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Ricky (Julian Dennison) is a defiant young city kid who finds himself on the run with his cantankerous foster uncle (Sam Neill) in the wild New Zealand bush. A national manhunt ensues, and the two are forced to put aside their differences and work together in this hilarious and heartfelt adventure. Wildly funny, endearing, and smart, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is the family film of the year and the Junior Film Fleadh will present its only Galway Screening as a Special Family Event on Saturday November 12th.

Speaking of the decision to include the title in the programme, Junior Film Fleadh Co-Ordinator Annette Maye said:

We are delighted to be screening not only a wonderful family-friendly film but also an exceptional piece of work from one of the most inventive directors working in world cinema today. Part coming of age story, part comedy chase film, Wilderpeople is a joy from start to finish for film-coers of all ages. From Boy, to What we do in the Shadows and now Hunt for the Wilderpeople, it’s been clear that Taika Waititi is a director to watch and was an inspired choice to helmthe upcoming Thor: Ragnarok for Disney/Marvel. I’m sure that Hunt for the Wilderpeople will be a future classic and it’s terrific to be able to put it on the big for the people of Galway to enjoy.

Featuring a mix of feature films, short film programmes, and events, the Junior Film Fleadh wil showcase the best in World Cinema to young audiences as well as providing a platform for some of the country’s best young filmmakers to exhibit their work alongside carefully curated workshops designed to help them develop their craft.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is on Saturday November 12th at 12:30pm. The Junior Film Fleadh runs from the 9th to the 12th November. See www.galwayfilmfleadh.com or call the Town Hall Theatre on 091569777 to book.
