Galway Film Fleadh - Script Pitching Competition

#Fleadh2016: 10 finalists announced for Script Pitching Competition

The 28th Galway Film Fleadh has announced the 10 finalists for their 12th annual Script Pitching Competition.

The Fleadh correctly recognises that a strong script is the essential component in a successful film. Each of the finalists will have 90 seconds to impress a panel of judges, that is made up of industry professionals.

The 2010 Film Fleadh opened with Paul Fraser’s My Brothers, which three years earlier was the winner of the 2007 Pitching Competition for writer Will Collins.

This year’s finalists are:

  • Eamonn Keane for The Watlers Beneath. Keane has pedigree in the competition having pitched Rise and Rise Again last year.
  • Janet Hayes for Edges. Hayes is co-writer on the RTÉ Storyland drama Quinn & O’Grady.
  • Kevin Fitzpatrick for Back Door.
  • David Keeling for Last Girl Left. Keeling is best know as writer and director on independent feature A Fistful of Diamonds.
  • John Corcoran for One Family Different Theatres. Corcoran won the Creative Cork Award for his short All Mortal Flesh at IndieCork in 2014.
  • Rachel Carey for Rosanna in the Highest.
  • Peter McGann for Caper. McGann is no stranger to Galway having completed a Masters in Screenwriting at the Huston School of Film.
  • Michael Whooley for The Duke of Dublin. Whooley worked as AD on Irish independent feature Dead Dogs.
  • John McKeown for Capturing Love. McKeown’s film Six Semesters, the first Irish feature made entirely by students, played at the 2009 Fleadh.
  • Robert Higgins for Losing My Edge. Higgins’ short film script Copper was nominated for Screenplay of the Year at the 2013 Student Media Awards.

The competition takes place in the Radisson BLU Hotel on Sunday July 10th, from noon until 2p.m. Entry is free and unticketed. The winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony later in the evening, with the chosen recipient receiving a €3,000 cash prize.
