Films at the Fleadh – A Turning Tide in the Life of Man

We continue our series of posts on the films at 2015 Galway Film Fleadh, taking a look at writer/director Loïc Jourdain’s documentary A Turning Tide in the Life of Man. The film screens Saturday July 11th, at 4pm in the Town Hall Theatre.

Filmed over eight years, A Turning Tide in the Life of Man follows John O’Brien, a small fisherman from the island of Inis Bó Finne who embarked on a European campaign to try and regain his ancestral right to fish the seas around Donegal.

The film tells how this man put himself, as ‘David against Goliath’, in the heart of the new reform of the Common Fisheries in Brussels to try to understand and change the system that took everything from him.

The film was co-production by Idee Originale, Lugh Films, and South Wind Blows, with support from the Irish Film Board, TG4, and France Télévisions.

A Turning Tide in the Life of Man has its Irish premiere on Saturday July 11th, at 4pm in the Town Hall Studio. Director Loïc Jourdain will attend the screening.
