Films at the Fleadh – A Day Like Today

We continue our series of posts on the films at 2015 Galway Film Fleadh, taking a look at Gerard Walsh’s microbudget Irish drama A Day Like Today. The film screens Wednesday July 8th, at 6.30pm in the Town Hall Studio.

The film, which was made on a budget of just €450, tells the story of a chance meeting between a homeless man and a woman in an unhappy marriage, following the pair as we delve deeper and deeper into their pasts.

The cast includes Paul Butler Lennox, Andie McCaffrey Byrne, Brian Fortune, Darragh O’Toole, Richard Mason, Tristan Heanue, and Tiny James.

Director Walsh, who loves to incorporate the real city of Dublin in his films, has previously given us the excellent short films, Bound and Is This It? (Winner of Best Short at 2013 Fingal Film Festival 2013). Here he acts as cinematographer in addition to director, and is joined behind the camera by operators James Fitzgerald (writer/director of multi-award-wining short Skunky Dog) and Ismael Diarra, with Leon Henry on Sound Design. The script comes from Walsh’s Bound screenwriter Shane Coules.
