Irish Festival: Submissions open for 10th Dingle International Film Festival

The 2016 Dingle International Film Festival is now open for submissions and have announced its festival dates. Dingle IFF will celebrate its 10th edition and Ireland’s Centenary in 2016, opening on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, and will run to March 20th.

Filmmakers can submit via FilmFreeway from today, and submissions will remain open until November 20th. Early submissions made before October 2nd will cost $35, while those made by the regular submission deadline are subject to a $50 fee. Late submissions will be accepted up until 4pm on Friday December 11th, but these will be subject to a $65 fee.

The festival welcomes short and feature films and are open to all genres of film, and is happy to receive animation, live action, experimental, and documentary film. The festival is interested in receiving and programming features and shorts suitable for a family audience.

The festival is non-competitive but the audience chooses the best short film and feature film of the festival with an “Audience Choice Award”.

In 2015 the festival played host to Ireland’s first ever Animation Awards ceremony in association with Animation Ireland; it is home to the Murakami Award for achievement in animation, (recipients including Jimmy T. Murakami(When The Wind Blows), Richie Baneham (Avatar) and Tomm Moore (Song of The Sea)); it has a full and inclusive Animation Programme of events as part of Animation Dingle; and, housed within this Gaeltacht area, Dingle IFF is proud to promote the Irish language and is the only festival offering an award for Irish Script writing with its Físín event.

Past guests at the festival have included Maureen O Hara, Cillian Murphy, Aidan Gillen, Scott Wilson, 2-time Oscar nominated director Sir Alan Parker, inventor of the Stedicam Garrett Brown, 2-time Oscar winner and sound artist Tom Johnson, 2-time Oscar winner Barbara Kopple, producer Ned Dowd, and Oscar nominated actresses Sarah Miles and Saoirse Ronan.

Filmmakers can apply online or via post, with all details are on FilmFreeway. The festival can exhibit on 35mm, DCP and HD Pro Res files. Venues include the wonderful Independent Phoenix Cinema built in 1937 and the atmospheric St. James’ church built in 1807. They also exhibit in Ioan An Blaschaoid Mhóir, An Lab and The Cinemobile.

Deadline to receive a submission is 4pm Friday December 11th 2015.

Selected films will be announced by January 2015.
