Emerald City

#IrishFilm: Colin Broderick’s independent feature Emerald City is available on VOD from Friday

Colin Broderick’s independent feature Emerald City (★★★★) will be available to watch on VOD from Friday, September 21st via iTunes in Ireland and the U.S., and also via Amazon in the U.S..

Emerald City from writer and director Broderick is a roguish drama on the importance of friendship, connections and finding one’s sense of self. Nestled in among the quieter suburbs of New York, the story follows a group of friends and colleagues, Irish construction workers, as they deal with their own personal issues and struggles in a city once built on the labour of their forebears.

I didn’t like any of the distribution offers that were discussed for Emerald City so I decided to self distribute through Distribber.  I love those guys.  They’ve been really great to work with.  It means that I retain ownership of the movie and control over it’s future.  I’m still convinced that it’s a hidden gem.  The only movie of it’s kind ever made about Irish construction workers in NYC and the only movie in the Scannain top ten list for last year that did not have an official distribution deal.

Broderick’s next film, A Bend in the River, which stars John Duddy and John Connors is currently in post-production.  Colm Mac Con Iomaire has been tasked with writing the score for the film. Post-production is expected to be competed before the end of the year.

Broderick will also soon release a new book, “The Writing Irish of New York”, which will be available in hardback from December 6th. It can be pre-ordered online now.
