Screenwriting Workshop - David Keating

#Training: Screenwriting workshop for shorts and features in Cork, November 5th & 6th

Screen Training Ireland, in association with Film In Cork, will host a screenwriting workshop with writer/director David Keating for shorts and features in Cork on November 5th and 6th.

The aim of the workshop is to energise and empower writers to create ambitious and engaging projects that connect with audiences. The workshop will use creative writing techniques in order to energise participants while demonstrating ways that innovative work can be supported by genre, format and the conventions of the screenplay form. While the theory behind the principles of theme, subtext and tension are introduced using examples, the nature and process of the workshop is that of an unfolding conversation.

This workshop is suitable for new writers preparing to embark on their first draft of a short or longform screenplay, and more experienced screenwriters ready to expand their technical abilities and creative processes.

Director and screenwriter, David Keating’s writing includes work for Columbia/Sony Pictures and on Jim Sheridan’s script for Into the West. He has directed three features films, The Last of the High Kings, with Jared Leto, Gabriel Byrne, and Christina Ricci; Wake Wood, with Aidan Gillen, Timothy Spall, and Eva Birthistle; and this year’s Cherry Tree, with Naomi Battrick, Anna Walton, and Sam Hazeldene. Cherry Tree was selected to open Film4 Frightfest last year. As a trainer and project mentor Keating has worked with Oxford University’s Green Templeton College and Saïd Business School, Screen Training Ireland, the National Film School of Ireland, the Huston School of Film and Digital Media, the London Film Academy, Moonstone, Equinoxe, Media Development Morocco, and with Mira Nair’s Uganda initiative MAISHA.

Applications can be made online via www.screentrainingireland.ie, while further details on the course are available from Rossa Mullin at Film In Cork.
