Dispossession

The IFI to screen Dispossession: The Great Social Housing Swindle on September 18th

The Irish Film Institute to host a panel discussion following the screening of Paul Sng’s Dispossession: The Great Social Housing Swindle on Monday, September 18th at 18.30.

The IFI are delighted to welcome guest speakers, Eoin O’Mahony, Teaching Fellow at the UCD School of Geography, Michelle Norris, Head of the UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice, and Rita Fagan, Project Director at St. Michael’s Estate Family Resource Centre, to participate in a panel discussion following the 18.30 screening of Dispossession: The Great Social Housing Swindle on Monday, September 18th.

Following the recent rise in homelessness in Ireland, this documentary about the dire state of social housing in Britain has never been more relevant. The film is a devastating insight into the often second-rate arrangements made by governments, often in times of economic desperation and when property speculators and management companies are in the business of profit, that lead to disastrous impacts on the people.

Narrated by Maxine Peake, the film focuses on the neglect, demolition and the regeneration of council estates across the UK, and offers a welcome counterpoint to the often-negative media portrayal of life in these communities.

Tickets for Dispossession: The Great Social Housing Swindle + panel discussion are on sale now at www.ifi.ie or from the IFI Box Office on 01-6793477.
