#IrishFilm: Principal photography to begin in Kildare on Ferdia Mac Anna’s Dannyboy

Principal photography begins next week in Kildare on Dannyboy, a new coming-of-age rom-com feature film by Ferdia Mac Anna (All About Eva).  Filming will take place for three weeks on what the producers are calling a micro budget with a macro heart.

Set in small town Ireland in 1981, the film tells the story of a young lad trying to find love among New Romantics, Post Punks, Goths and others tribes. Daniel is an anxious, stuttering teen struggles to save his demented family while caught in a love triangle between gorgeous playgirl Carla and the nerdy Donna.

The film stars Clelia Murphy, Fiona Condon, Helena Geoghegan, Alexandra Moloney, Lucy Jones, Paddy C. Courtney and Jack Hickey, with Darragh Byrne as the title character. Ferdia Mac Anna wrote the screenplay with Mary Duffin.

DOP is Alan Rogers, wardrobe is by Joyce Kelly, with make up by Jennie Kelly,  and sound by Alan Joyce and Neil Horner. The film produced by Richie Kearney, Elvera Butler and Ross Fitzsimons, and is Edited by Philip Lewis. The microbudget feature is a co-production between Dannyboy Films and Frame it Productions.

The soundtrack will include songs and music by Irish and international artists of the era.

Dannyboy is set for release in early 2019.
