Broad Green Pictures boards Gerard Barrett’s Brain on Fire

Deadline is reporting that a new production company and distributor has joined those financing Kerry filmmaker Gerard Barrett’s new film Brain on Fire.

Broad Green Pictures, which was founded by billionaire hedge fund manager Gabriel Hammond and his brother Daniel, join Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah and Foundation Features in backing the film. They will also act as distributors in the US, with Mister Smith Entertainment selling the international rights after launching the film at the European Film Market last February.

Last month Chloë Grace Moretz joined the adaptation of Susannah Cahalan’s best-selling memoir Brain On Fire: My Month Of Madness, in the leading role. The film also features comedian Jenny Slate, and Thomas Mann as Moretz’s boyfriend.

Barrett is adapting the screenplay for the film, which follows a rising journalist at the New York Post who mysteriously starts having seizures and hearing voices. As weeks go by, she moves inexplicably from violence to catatonia — but a last-minute intervention by one doctor finally gives her a diagnosis and hope to rebuild her life.

Brain On Fire will be produced by Charlize Theron, Beth Kono, and A.J. Dix for Denver & Delilah Films, and Rob Merilees and Lindsay Macadam for Foundation Features. Barrett is also attached as co-producer.

Principal photography will begin on July 13th in Vancouver, with the film set for release in 2016.
