Screen International is reporting that Altitude has acquired UK distribution rights and international sales for David Freyne’s sophomore feature film, Beards. Wildcard Distribution will release the film in Ireland.
The film, which is set in mid-90s rural Ireland, centres on a pair of teenagers, played by Fionn O’Shea (Handsome Devil) and Lola Petticrew (A Bump Along the Way), who fake a relationship in order to stop everyone speculating about their sexuality. Support comes from Barry Ward (Extra Ordinary) and Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe).
Writer/director Freyne impressed with his zombie-themed debut feature The Cured, which screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.
The film very recently completed a 5-week shoot with DoP Ruairí O’Brien. Beards is produced by Rachael O’Kane and John Keville for Atomic 80 Productions, with co-producers Wrong Men from Belgium. Financing came via Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland
