Atlantic – Irish short movie gets plaudits

I love to see Irish artists getting the credit they deserve. Good news then with Conor Ferguson’s Irish Film Board Short Atlantic getting nominated in two categories for the California Independent Film Festival.

The festival, which runs from April 22nd to 25th, is one of the most successful and fastest growing film festivals in California, and offers audiences a chance to catch top-quality independent movies from around the globe.

Atlantic is set to compete for Best Mini Short, while Cedric Culliton is up for the Best Cinematography award. The movie has previously picked up awards in Japan, Italy and France.

Atlantic tells the story of a lonely farmer, played by Liam Cunningham, who spends his days tending sheep and thinking of Molly, the woman who loved and left him many years ago. Unbeknownst to the poor unfortunate there’s a letter on it’s way across the Atlantic that could change his life forever…but will he ever get to read it?

The short is also being screened at the Newport Beach Festival (April 19th to 29th) and the Manchester Kinofilm Festival (April 27th to May 2nd).

This is not the first Ferguson film to be noticed on the world stage with his first, The Wednesdays, having picked up 15 awards from various festivals worldwide.
