Screen International is reporting that Twice Shy, an independent Irish film that tackles the topical subject of abortion, has been picked up for international sales by 7&7 Producers’ Sales Service, who will represent the film at the forthcoming Marché du Film which is held in conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival.

Twice Shy is a modern, coming of age drama that revolves around a young, unmarried couple who set off on a road trip from Ireland to London, as the result of an unplanned pregnancy. The film charts the ups and downs of their relationship by juxtaposing their dramatic journey with flashbacks to happier times in their romance.

The film stars Shane Murray-Corcoran and Iseult Casey in the lead roles and features support from a stellar cast including Ardal O’ Hanlon (After Hours, Fr. Ted), Pat Shortt (The Guard, Garage), Mary Conroy (Ros na Run), and Paul Ronan (Love/Hate).

Director Tom Ryan wrote the story for Twice Shy in the hopes of reflecting a modern Ireland and addressing some topical issues in a sensitive light. It is his second film since his impressive micro-budget debut film Trampoline.

We are excited to introduce Twice Shy at this year’s Marché and give the film the international exposure it deserves. Its subtle and engaging take on a very topical issue will resonate with the market especially in territories where the subject of abortion is still a hot topic for debate.
Maura Ford – 7&7

We’re delighted to have partnered with 7&7 for our worldwide sales. They have huge confidence in the film and have secured two screenings at the Marché in Cannes. This will give Twice Shy the exposure we had hoped for. It will also build momentum for a limited summer release in Irish cinemas that we are currently working on with Patrick O’ Neill at Wildcard. With abortion being such a topical subject in Ireland currently, this film is timely to keep that discussion happening.
Fionn Greger – Producer

Ryan teamed up with producer Fionn Greger after the two met and worked together in London. Twice Shy was filmed over the summer of 2015 in Tipperary, Dublin and London.

The film features an array of songs from fantastic talent such as Ash, Gavin Jones, Republic of Loose, Molly Sterling, Natasha Slater and The Corrs. The original score for the film was composed and arranged by Patrizio Knight. The film’s mix was mastered in London at Soho Square Studios.

Twice Shy will be released in Irish cinemas later this year via Wildcard DistributionWildcard Distribution is an Irish film distributor established in early 2013 specialising in new and fresh approaches to distribution..
