The 24th St. Louis International Film Festival has announced its lineup, for the festival which runs November 5th to 15th. 3 Irish shorts will play the festival, with John Crowley’s Brooklyn Ireland’s sole feature participant.
Brooklyn is an adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s best-selling novel by the equally best-selling British author Nick Hornby. Set in the 1950s, the film sees a young woman move from a small town in Ireland to Brooklyn, where she has the opportunity for work, for a future and for love.
Intermission director Crowley has gathered an all-star Irish and British cast, that features Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent, and Julie Walters. Brooklyn is an Irish/British co-production from Wildgaze Films, Finola Dwyer Productions, Parallel Films and Item 7, with co-finance from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board. It will be released in Irish cinemas on November 6th.
On the short front Ireland is represented by Alan Holly’s animation Coda, which sees a lost soul stumble drunkenly through the city and encounter Death; Jade Travers’ experimental Today’s Yesterday, which sees an elderly woman dance like there is no tomorrow; and Brendan Donnelly’s Chinese co-produced documentary A Fisherman’s Song, which looks at the economic development in Zhoushan, China, which threatens the environment and challenges the traditions and identity of its local people.
SLIFF 2015 will screen an unprecedented 447 films: 97 narrative features, 86 documentary features, and 264 shorts. The fest also will feature seven special-event programs, including two free master classes and the closing-night party. This year’s festival has 270 screenings/programs, with 70 countries represented, including The 33, Anomalisa, Carol, I Saw the Light, Krisha, The Lady in the Van, Legend, Love the Coopers, Remember, Son of Saul, and Youth.
