#IrishAbroad: Soulsmith wins Best International Feature at Austin Revolution Film Festival

News from America where Kevin Henry’s Soulsmith has won Best International Feature at the Austin Revolution Film Festival. Back home, Soulsmith will begin a week long run in the Sligo Omniplex from Friday, September 29th.

The story follows Ed O’Brien, a playwright based in Dublin who is struggling professionally after earlier successes. He returns to the west of Ireland for his father’s funeral, reconnects with old friends and with the place he used to call home. Featuring the scenic landscape of the West of Ireland, Soulsmith introduces us to an ensemble of characters that Ed meets on his journey.

Written and directed by Kevin Henry (The Last Confession), Soulsmith is a drama starring Matthew O’Brien (The Lobster, Volkswagen Joe, Williton’s Way), alongside Caoimhe O’Malley, Conor Marren (North Circular Road, Love Rosie), Brian Fortune (Game of Thrones, How to be Happy, Jack and Ralph Plan a Murder), Tristan Heanue (In this Place, Skunky Dog, Cardboard Gangsters), and Elva Trill (Ripper Street, Red Rock).

The production team includes Editor Eoin McDonagh (The Nation 1923, Natan), Director of Photography Stephen C Walsh (North Circular Road); Production Designer Aoife Murray (Darkness on the Edge of Town); Sound Designer Colin McKenna (Crone Wood, An Irish Father),  and 1st AD Siobháin Kehoe. Music comes from Michael Fleming, who did great work on The Queen of Ireland. Séamus Waters and Kevin Henry produce for Whim Productions.

Entirely self funded the film premiered to a sold out audience at the 2016 Cork Film Festival, Ireland’s oldest film festival. Following on from this the film played at festivals in Derby, Stockholm, Sydney and Clare Island. Film Ireland called it an ‘intelligent film with a lot to offer’.
