The Image You Missed

#IrishAbroad: The Image You Missed and The Patriot Game to screen at the Open City Documentary Festival in London this September

Donal Foreman’s The Image You Missed and Arthur MacCaig’s The Patriot Game will screen at the Open City Documentary Festival in London, in association with Irish Film London. The festival place in London from 4th to 9th September.

The Image You Missed sees Irish filmmaker Donal Foreman grapple with the legacy of his estranged father, the late American documentarian Arthur MacCaig, through MacCaig’s decades spanning archive of the conflict in Northern Ireland, much of which has never been seen publicly before. Directed, produced and edited by Foreman over a two year period, the film was executive produced by renowned French filmmaker Philippe Grandrieux and film critic Nicole Brenez, and features an original soundtrack composed and performed by legendary Irish jazz musician Michael Buckley alongside electronic musicians Ohal Grietzer and Christopher Colm Morrin.

The Patriot Game

The Patriot Game tells the story of the long and bitter battle for Northern Ireland. The film’s introduction covers Ireland’s history from British colonization to the territory’s division in 1922. It then details the events of the decade that began in 1968. Through powerful portraits of rebellion and eyewitness accounts of killings and such massacres as the infamous “Bloody Sunday,” the film shows the IRA at work – much of it filmed clandestinely – as they argue their cause which, in this country and in most of the world, has gone unheard.

Celebrating the art of non-fiction, Open City Documentary Festival creates an open space in London to nurture and champion the art of creative documentary and non-fiction filmmakers. They aim to challenge and expand the idea of documentary in all its forms. They provide a platform for emerging talent as well as established masters working within the documentary form.

The festival takes place over six days in venues across Central London, and consists of international contemporary and retrospective non-fiction film, audio and cross media, as well as filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, workshops, networking and parties. The eighth edition of the festival will take place between 4th – 9th September 2018.
