#IrishAbroad: Moe Dunford wins best actor at 2016 European Independent Film Festival

Over the weekend the 11th edition of ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival was held in Paris, and in-keeping with the stellar year for Irish cinema there was an Irish winner, as Dungarvan’s Moe Dunford picked up Best Actor for his lead role in Terry McMahon’s Patrick’s Day.

Dunford stars as a young man with mental health issues who becomes intimate with a flight attendant with her own demons. When his obsessive mother finds out she enlists a dysfunctional detective to separate them. Patrick’s Day is a provocative love story which explores the right to intimacy.

ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival is dedicated to the discovery and advancement of the very best independent filmmakers from around the world. The festival screens 100 of the best independent films from around the world in Paris every year, with Patrick’s Day flying the Irish flag this year, playing in competition.

Dunford, who picked up an IFTA at the weekend for his role as Aethelwulf in the History Channel’s Vikings, can next been seen on Irish screens in Declan Recks’ new comedy The Flag, which is currently in production.

Patrick’s Day is available on DVD now.
