#IrishAbroad: Vancouver Irish Film Festival to Canadian premiere Michael Inside on September 15th

Vancouver Irish Film Festival (VIRFF), Vancouver’s newest cultural event organised to celebrate the city’s vibrant Irish diaspora and showcase the best in Irish cinema announces next screening! Following on from their successful sell-out launch night of The Drummer and the Keeper, VIRFF are screening award winning Michael Inside on September 15th.

Written and directed by Frank Berry, Michael Inside stars Dafhyd Flynn, Moe Dunford and Lalor Roddy and tells the story of Michael McCrea, an impressionable 18-year-old living with his grandfather Francis in a Dublin housing estate, who gets caught holding a bag of drugs for his friend’s older brother and is sentenced to three months in prison.

The film has received a host of awards, including Best Film 2018 (Irish Film and Television Awards), Best Irish Film (Galway Film Fleadh, 2017), Bingham Ray Rising Star Award 2017 (Galway Film Fleadh, 2017),  Audience Award (Cork Film Festival, 2017).

Produced by Donna Eperon, Tristan Orpen Lynch and Aoife O’Sullivan for Subotica and Write Direction Films, the film was made with funding from Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland.

Festival founder Àine Coady has also announced that their first festival will run December 7th-9th . The programme will include Irish shorts and features at the beautiful setting of Vancity Theatre, which hosts the annual Vancouver International Film Festival.
