JETS - Junior Entertainment Talent Slate

#IrishAbroad: Four Irish projects to take part in JETS 2019 at Berlinale

The line-up for this year’s Junior Entertainment Talent Slate at Berlinale has been confirmed. 4 of the 22 film projects participating in the JETS 2019 edition come from Ireland, with the rest coming from Canada, Finland, Germany, Norway and the UK.

The Irish contingent includes director Mark Smyth’s 11 Days, a gritty eco-fiction thriller inspired by the events caused by the ‘Beast From The East’ last year written and produced by Jonathan Farrelly; Emma Foley and Michael Carolan’s Fence, produced by Tamryn Reinecke; Gavin Kilduff’s Paradigm, produced by Richard Bolger and Edwina Casey; and Michael Kinirons’ Sparrow, produced by Alicia Ní Ghráinne.

We’re delighted to be part of this years JETS scheme at Berlinale. It’s a great forum for filmmakers to get their feature films off the ground. We’re honoured to be part of something that attracts the cream of the crop from around Europe and are looking forward to the pitching and networking, it’s going to be a great few days.
Mark Smyth, Director – 11 Days

Smyth and Farrelly participated in JETS 2018, with the project Will It Be A Kind God?. That film is scheduled to go into production in July. Smyth is also about to release the Galway Film Centre short, The Bridge, while Farrelly has just produced the comedy feature film, Poster Boys, written and directed by Dave Minogue. The two will also write and direct last year’s Film Limerick bursary winner, Everything Looks Better In The Sunshine, produced by Ronan Cassidy and Greg Burrows, which is set to shoot in March 2019.

JETS stands for Junior Entertainment Talent Slate and runs for the 3rd time during the International Film Festival Berlin 2019.

It unites 1st, 2nd and 3rd feature film filmmakers with German, Canadian, Irish, British, Finish, Norwegian and US producers, sales agents, finance and distribution companies during a pitching session with the aim of Co-Production.

The JETS Co-Production Initiative organised by WEP Productions & WEP UK Productions is funded and supported by Telefilm Canada, nordmedia, Screen Ireland, HessenFilm und Medien GmbH, Filminvest, The Finnish Film Foundation, Directors UK, YPA Germany, CMPA Canada, movie college, The Finnish Film Affair, Ludwig Kameraverleih, Vertretung des Landes Bremen beim Bund and the Canadian Embassy in Berlin.
