Irish Abroad: Three Irish films head to the East End Film Festival, London

The East End Film Festival in London, which runs from July 1st to 12th, is set to play host to two Irish feature films and an Irish short.

Donal Nugent’s North Circular Road will have its UK premiere at the festival, where it will feature alongside Michael Madsen’s Irish co-production The Visit, and Jon Kiel’s short Tunnel Another Way.

North Circular Road is a supernatural drama which follows Janice and Matthew Cadogan as they move into a new house. After Janice cheats on Matthew she begins to see a ghostly couple walking their halls, and she is soon disturbed by a story of domestic abuse that seems to unfold in front of her eyes. The film stars Pat O’Donnell (Tin Can Man, The Looking Glass) and Lorna Larkin, along with Vanessa Richter and Patrick Molloy. The film is produced by Michael Parle and Kathy Horgan of Dark Window Media.

Michael Madsen’s documentary The Visit is a creative documentary that poses the question, what would happen if we were to be visited by a being from another world. The film presents this hypothetical scenario to experts from around the world who have already dedicated their lives to preparing for such an event. The film is co-produced by Venom Film, with support from the Irish Film Board.

Tunnel Another Way is a sci-fi short film, about a group of sentient creatures that find themselves lost in a system of tunnels. With no knowledge of how they got there and almost no water to drink, they strive to find a way out. The lead characters are computer generated with voice-overs by actors Stephen Forristal and Shannan Sutherland.

Founded in 2000, the East End Film Festival is one of the UK’s largest film festivals, attracting an annual audience of more than 30,000. The festival offers a diverse programme of international premieres, industry masterclasses, free pop-up screenings and immersive live events aimed at discovering, supporting, and exhibiting pioneering work by global and local independent filmmakers.
