Celtic Media Festival 2017

#Awards: Irish sweep the awards on the first day of Celtic Media Festival

A sporting legend and a hard-hitting investigation were among the first day’s winners at the three-day Celtic Media Festival in Douglas, Isle of Man. The 38th festival is under way as around 400 delegates arrive to experience the unique celebration of film, television, radio and digital media, which promotes the languages and cultures of the Celtic nations and regions.

The first of 2017’s prestigious Torc Award winners were announced today in a ceremony that marked the opening of the festival. RTÉ Investigates Standards in Public Office was named Best Current Affairs programme, while the RTÉ/BBC co-production, Crash and Burn, which looked at the life of motor-racing driver Tommy Byrne, won in the Best Sports Documentary category.

The awards celebrate the very best of film, television, radio and interactive media to emerge within the Celtic nations in the past year.

We’re delighted to launch the 38th Celtic Media Festival here on the Isle of Man, at the start of what promises to be a great few days. From the International Pitching Forum to our peer-to-peer networking sessions, the Festival is bringing together some of the most talented minds in the Celtic film and television industries. The Torc Awards are always a great highlight of the Festival and this year’s shortlist was tough for our National and International Juries to whittle down. With the first winners announced this afternoon we can’t wait to reveal more tomorrow, and to welcome more commissioners, directors and producers, alongside influential figures within the media industry, to Douglas.
