#IrishAbroad: Aislinn Clarke long-listed for Screen Genre Rising Star Award at 19th FrightFest

The Devil’s Doorway director Aislinn Clarke has been selected as one of seven names on the long-list for the Screen Genre Rising Star Award at the upcoming FrightFest in the UK.

The Devil’s Doorway, which has its UK premiere at the festival, is the first found-footage horror film to be made in Northern Ireland and the first ever Northern Irish horror feature directed by a woman. In it, Lalor Roddy plays a priest sent by the Vatican to investigate a miraculous event in an Irish home for “fallen women” in 1960. What he uncovers is something much more horrific.

Clarke is joined on the list by directors Kevin Chicke (Perfect Skin) and Mike Mort (Chuck Steel: Night Of The Trampires), producer/actor Marcia Do Vales (HeretiksIbiza Undead, and actors Hannah Arterton (SafeHeretiks), Ella Hunt (Anna And The Apocalypse), and Sam Gittins (Await Further Instructions).

This is the third year of the Rising Star award. Previous winners include Alice Lowe and Danny Morgan.

The 19th FrightFest take places at Cineworld Leicester Square and the Prince Charles Cinema in London from August 23rd to 27th. The festival will open with The Ranger, the first female-directed opening film in the history of the festival.

The objective of FrightFest, when founded, was to provide the UK with a fantasy and horror film festival of similar stature to the market leaders in Europe and the US. FrightFest has since evolved into a community where audiences and guests alike travel from all over the world to be part of the event’s unique atmosphere.
