#Irish Abroad: Irish well represented in nominations for the 2016 British Independent Film Awards

The British Independent Film Awards announced their nominees this morning and Irish talent will be wellrepresented at the awards. Irish genre-film I Am Not A Serial Killer picked up three nominations, with lead Max Records up for Best Actor, Christopher Lloyd up for Best Supporting Actor, and director Billy O’Brien up for Screenplay with co-writer Christopher Hyde. Kerry star Michael Fassbender was nominated for his role in British film Trespass Against Us, while County Down’s Jamie Dornan is nomintaed for Best Supporting Actor for Anthropoid. Irish cinemtographer Robbie Ryan, who shot I, Daniel Blake and I Am Not A Serial Killer is nominated for Outstanding Achievement In Craft for his work on Andrea Arnold’s American Honey. Northern Irish writers John Cairns and Michael McCartney picked up a nomination for their Screenplay for Michael Lennox’s A Patch of Fog.

Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake topped the list of nominations with seven, including film, director and screenplay. American Honey, Adult Life Skills, Notes on Blindness, and Under the Shadow have six nominations each, while The Girl With All the Gifts has four.

Fassbenders nomination for Best Actor is his third consecutive nomination and his sixth nomination overall. He previously won twice, for Hunger in 2008 and Shame in 2011. Andrea Arnold picked up her fourth BIFA nomination having won in the same category for Fish Tank in 2009, while it is Ken Loach’s fifth nomination, having won won for My Name Is Joe in 1998.

The winners of the 2016  British Independent Film Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony on December 4th, which will be held at Old Billingsgate, London.
