Last Friday, August 14th, Universal Pictures Ireland and the Dublin International Film Festival teamed up to bring new comedy Trainwreck to Dublin audiences with a special screening that saw red carpet appearances by director Judd Apatow and leading actors Amy Schumer and Bill Hader. We sent our Graham along to meet them.
Trainwreck, Judd Apatow’s fifth feature film as director–producer, is written by its leading star Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer). She plays a woman who lives her life without apologies, even when maybe apologies are what are needed!
Amy is a magazine writer, who lives by that credo—enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment—but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut. When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she’s writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners, Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.
Schumer is joined in Trainwreck by Emmy award nominated Bill Hader, a firm favourite on the US hit show Saturday Night Live for 8 years, who stars as Aaron Conners. The film also features Tilda Swinton, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, Barkhad Abdi, Mike Birbiglia, Jon Glaser, Vanessa Bayer, John Cena, Ezra Miller, LeBron James, Method Man, Jim Norton, and Norman Lloyd.
Trainwreck is out in Irish cinemas now.
