Sony to bring 3D to Blu-ray this summer

Sony Pictures have announced that they will begin to release 3D movies on Blu-ray Disc worldwide for the first time, beginning this summer with the  release of computer animated comedy Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. This is proper 3D folks, not the red/blue type that recent release Coraline went with, but rather the full on HD movie experience brought into your home in the new Sony line of 3D compatible Bravia LCD televisions and Blu-ray players.

No word on whether these will be stand-alone discs or bundled with their 2D compatriots as yet, but you would imagine execs would figure that it’ll be a while before 3D televisions are common place thus making stand-alone versions a hard-sell.
