First images emerge for Spielberg’s War Horse

Would you like to see some images from a movie that crosses Saving Private Ryan, Lassie Come Home and Seabiscuit? No? What if I told you it was from legendary director Steven Spielberg? Aj  thought that might change things. The movie is called War Horse, and it’s about a horse during the war.

The war in question is World War I, a.k.a. The Great War. The horse in question is Joey, a regular work-horse that is sold to the British military to help in the war. The son of Joey’s owner (Albert), who has formed an emotional attachment to the horse, is none to happy about this turn of events and sets off to bring his horse home from France. (There’s a joke in there somewhere)

The movie stars newcomer Jeremy Irvine as Albert, Emily Watson as his mother and Celine Bucken as Emilie. The film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Toby Kebbell and David Thewlis. Great cast there. It’s also based on a play, which is in turn based on the the book War Horse, a children’s story by Michael Morpurgo. The script comes via Notting Hill scribe Richard Curtis, aided by Billy Elliot’s Lee Hall, and with cinematography by Janusz Kami?ski, as well as John Williams provided the score this has Oscar written all over it.

War Horse will be released in Ireland January 13th, 2012.
