Scannain is delighted to host the online premiere of one of the best and funniest Irish short films of the last 2 years, Megan K. Fox’s The Shift. A female-centric comedy that dabbles in politics, gender, and everything in between, written by Mairead Kiernan.
It’s the last disco of the Gaeltacht, and thirsty fifteen year old Denise is determined to get the shift against all odds.
The Shift was awarded funding through the Film in Cork Script Award 2018 and premiered at Cork Film Festival where it began it’s festival journey by winning the title of Best Cork Short. It went on to add the XX Award at Underwire Film Festival 2019, Best Short at the Iffy Awards 2019, and Best Short at the Belfast Film Festival 2020.
The film stars Fiona Bergin in the lead role, with support from Kit Barrett, Joshua Campbell, Cian Colbert, Una O’Brien, and Carol O’Reilly. It was produced by Karen Twomey, with costumes by Sarah Lally and cinematography by Evan Barry.
We’re incredibly excited to finally share our Film in Cork 2018 funded film The Shift online after a brilliant festival run over the past year and a half. We kicked off with a win at Cork Film Festival in 2018 and ended the circuit with a joint win at Belfast Film Festival earlier this year, so we’ve been overwhelmed with the support and love audiences have shared for the film. Hopefully, it will give everyone a giggle in these uncertain times, and remind us of simpler days.
