Dubliner Barry Keoghan has been cast as the lead for U.S. TV channel FX’s adaptation of Y: The Last Man, which will be titled Y. He will star alongside Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield and Marin Ireland in the pilot for the comic-book adaptation.
Keoghan will play Yorick Brown in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series which sees all living mammals with a Y chromosome—including embryos and sperm—simultaneously die, with the exception of a young amateur escape artist , Yorick, and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand.
Poots will play Hero Brown, Yorick’s sister; with Lane as Senator Jennifer Brown, Yorick and Hero’s mother; Lynch as Agent 355, Yorick’s bodyguard who works for the Culper Ring, a mysterious U.S. government agency dating back to the American Revolution; Canfield as Beth, Yorick’s girlfriend; and Ireland as Nora, Yorick’s older sister, who joined the Daughters of the Amazon after the plague.
Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal will act as co-showrunners and will executive produce alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force. Series creator Brian K. Vaughan will also executive produce. Melina Matsoukas will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer.
The series will be based on Vertigo/DC Comics’ acclaimed series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Keoghan had been angling to play another DC hero, Robin, and even went as far as shooting his own shoot film as the character. He can next be seen in Bart Layton’s American Animals, which enjoys it’s Irish premier tomorrow at the Galway Film Fleadh ahead on a nationwide release on September 7th.
