The Audi Dublin International Film Festival is taking the excitement of the Picture House outside of traditional cinema venues. Bringing carefully selected films and some of the elements that make a trip to the cinema special, Picture House aims to recreate some of that on-screen magic with our outreach partners.
Picture House has expanded to include a more diverse range of venues and audiences including School Street Family Resource Centre (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang); Merchant’s Quay Homeless and Drugs Services (Terminator 2); as well as two care homes St Mary’s Nursing Home Phoenix Park and the Mercer’s Institute for Successful Aging (MISA, at S. James Hospital (That’s Entertainment!).
ADIFF’s Picture House is a place where memories of stars, stories, show tunes and cinema trips of decades-gone-by are shared by older audiences, classic family films are discovered by new generations, or well-known films are presented to include audiences who find it difficult to access cinema. Picture House runs three programmes a year in the spring, summer and autumn.
Cinema is more than flickering images on a blank screen. ADIFF’s Picture House initiative brings films to new audiences of all ages, bringing all the fun of the Festival into a variety of spaces and homes across the city.
Gráinne Humphreys, Festival Director – ADIFF
Picture House is… hands down… one of the brightest things about this festival. I’ve seen it make the people we bring it to laugh, cry and remember. It engages them in a get together otherwise beyond their reach. I am complimented to be a close part of something that is so vital to a marginalised segment of our society.
