Gearing up for its premiere at this year’s Richard Harris International Film Festival in Limerick is A Very Irish Family, a WW1 based TV Drama pilot written/created by Declan and Rob Gill and directed by Emmet Kelly. A Very Irish Family is a co-production between Aonach Productions and Burning House Productions and was shot on locations in Co. Limerick, Co. Dublin and Co. Cavan this summer. Set design and additional production services were provided by recently established Emerald Giant Productions.
Set in Tipperary, Flanders and Gallipoli, this pilot for a TV series in development, introduces the well-to-do and politically influential Gleeson family of Tipperary (based on a real-life family and real events) as the tumultuous events of the early 20th Century threaten to tear the family apart.
A Very Irish Family tells the tale of one family, but the pilot also tells the story of tens of thousands of Irish families, from all classes and political persuasions, during the Great War – those who went and those left behind.
