Terence Malick makes extraordinary movies, sure his last one The New World wasn’t to everyone’s tastes but it was still an extraordinary movie. His new venture The Tree of Life today gets a new trailer and poster, and early indications are that this should be extraordinary too, a moving and emotional piece of cinema with beautiful cinematography.
The film starts as an 1950’s period piece set in the Midwest, where we follow the growth of an eleven-year-old boy and his relationship with his parents. We are then brought into the present day, where the boy is now an adult and a lost soul in a modern world.
Malick has assembled a great cast for this film that includes Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain. As we can see in the trailer the film looks amazing. Hopefully it will be just as good once it’s released in it’s entirety.
The Tree of Life is released May 27th.

Synopsis:
From Terrence Malick, the acclaimed director of such classic films as Badlands, Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950’s. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick’s signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.
