Hello and welcome to the new Netflix column here on Scannain. This is where you will find all our latest recommendations for Netflix along with some new release information too. So, for this first installment, we thought we would concentrate on the TV shows element of Netflix, seeing as there are literally hundreds to choose from.
First up is the masterpiece that is Suits. For those of you like me who are late to the Suits party, let me give you a lesson. Mike Ross is a bum who wastes his many talents by not applying himself to college. Harvey Spectre is a big shot lawyer who is going places. The two meet by pure accident, a little white lie is told and hey presto Mike is working for Harvey. Netflix have up to season 3 online and believe me when I say that it is well worth checking out. From the drama of anyone finding out Mike’s secret to watching the interaction between Mike and Harvey, there is something for everyone in Suits. Only downfall you will need to go and find Season 4 when you have finished because you will have to find out what happens.

Next up is Luther. Now I must confess I *might* have a thing for Idris Elba. But seriously what female on the planet doesn’t? With the new series of Luther coming soon, there isn’t a better time to get reacquainted with Mr Luther. Idris Elbas plays a hard as nails cop who isn’t afraid to bend the rules to get the job done. As much as I love Idris in this, another actress deserves as much credit. Ruth Wilson who plays Alice Morgan plays a blinder right the way through this programme. She divides the public, people either love her or they hate her. I will leave it up to you to decide.
Next up is the L Word.Featuring the very lovely Katherine Moenning, the L Word follows the lives of a group of lesbian friends. With drama, heartache, love, joy and everything in between, the L Word definitely has something for everyone. Netflix has all 6 seasons of it online and trust me when I tell you once you start, you will not be able to stop watching it.
Though not technically a “tv show”, I couldn’t not give a special mention to the brilliant Peaky Blinders. Starring Cillian Murphy, Peaky Blinders tells the story of Thomas Shelby, an infamous gangster who led the Peaky Blinders in the aftermath of WW1. While the show itself is ruthless and brutal, there is also a strong love story running through it. This is some of Murphy’s best acting in my opinion.
Lastly for this installment, we have The Fixer. John Mercer played by Andrew Buchan, kills his aunt and uncles because they abused his sister, is arrested and jailed. Five years into his sentence he is given a chance of a new life. There was one catch though, he was to become a government backed assasin who would clean up the messes left behind by other criminals and corrupt police officers. Also making an appearance is Tazmin Outwaite. Netflix has two seasons of this online and it is worth checking out;
That’s it for this week. Tune in next week when I’ll be talking all things movie and documentary related. And of course if you have any recommendations yourself, be sure to leave them in the comments.
