THR is reporting that Irish actor Colin Farrell has signed on to join Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The Dublin born actor will feature alongside Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston, Faith Wood-Blagrove, and Alison Sudol, playing the role of Graves. He is currently appearing on Irish television screens in HBO drama True Detective, and will next be seen in Yorgos Lanthimos’s Irish co-production The Lobster on October 16th.
The film is the first in a trilogy, and is set 70 years before the events depicted in the Harry Potter series, based of a small book that Rowling wrote for Comic Relief. The trilogy will follow the adventures of writer Newt Scamander (Redmayne) in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards.
Potter veteran David Yates is directing the film, based on a script by author J.K. Rowling. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is due out in cinemas on November 18, 2016.
