With Disney Pixar’s latest animated film Inside Out previewing as the Gala Opening of the IFI Family Festival (16th-19th July), and the 20th anniversary of the release of Toy Story also this year, the IFI will celebrate the achievements of Inside Out’s writer/director and one of the creators of Toy Story, Pete Docter, at Pixar Animation Studios.
The Focus on Pixar: Pete Docter will run from 4th-13th July showcasing key features from his career, including the seminal Toy Story (3D) (July 4th, 13.00), Wall-E (July 6th, 18.30), Monsters, Inc. (July 11th, 13.00), and finishing with what was, in 2009, the first animated film to open the Cannes Film Festival, Up (July 13th, 18.30).
Pixar Animation Studios have revitalised the form, producing work of wit, invention, and sophistication with huge cross-generational appeal. Its output has also received rapturous critical acclaim and a stream of major awards, including seven Oscars for Best Animated Feature.
Docter returned to the Cannes Croisette this year for the premiere of Disney Pixar’s Inside Out, a story featuring the emotional characters of Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness who attempt to guide a young girl through the turmoil of moving home to a new city.
